Start therapy today & conquer life’s challenges with Ian Wine
Since 2007, I have provided clinical counselling services to individuals, couples and families with a variety of challenges. In my experience, I have found that the best way to help people activate their own resources for insight and change is through an integrative style that is non-confrontational, yet challenging. I am able to blend evidence-based practices with humanistic and insight-oriented techniques to empower people to reach their goals.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them”
Ian A. Wine,
Youth, Adults, Couples, Family Counselling/Therapy,
Clinical Supervision, Consultations, and Training.
Ian uses an eclectic approach of holistic, evidence-based techniques to support clients in changing their thinking and behaviours to improve the outcome of their lives. Ian uses his own narrative of resiliency to motivate and inspire others to recognize the growth and positives that can come from life challenges.
What I offer
Delivering a wide array of clinical counselling/therapy
to help you realize your full potential
In addition to Individual, family, and couple therapy/counselling, as well as group workshops, I offer individual and group consulting and conduct workshops, training, and debriefing for therapists, frontline workers, first responders, community organizers, and non-profit organizations.
Counselling/Psychotherapy is an opportunity to take a look at life’s challenges with a goal of working toward positive change in your journey to well being. Ian offers a caring and confidential space to work toward your goals. He is a Registered Social Worker/Psychotherapist with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers of Ontario and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association), is listed in Psychology Today and holds both a Bachelors’ and Masters’ Degrees in Social Work.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the most commonly used form of Counselling or Psychotherapy. It works by addressing problematic thinking patterns such as self-defeating thoughts, blame, guilt, unfair expectations (“I should be doing this instead”), labelling, and catastrophizing. In sessions, the therapist assists the client by exploring their perspective on the issues, working on increasing insight, using a balanced, evidence-based approach to decision-making, and implementing behavioural changes to increase their quality of life.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is similar to CBT, with emphasis on mood regulation skills for those who experience intense distress. Major components include Mindfulness training, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Distress Tolerance, and Emotional Regulation strategies. DBT techniques are often woven into CBT sessions depending on the client’s presenting issues.
Other treatment modalities such as Emotion Focussed Therapy, Solution-Focussed Therapy and Narrative Therapy also have a significant role in supporting individuals with challenges.
Why I would be your
choice for support?
- With over 21+ years of experience as a therapist working with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples ensuring compassion through evidence-informed therapeutic services
- My approach is to learn about you and your strengths, to work collaboratively in a relationship based on trust and competency, and to draw on my years of experience and theory.
- I have both the training and experience in treating a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, ADHD, ADD, Bi-polar disorder, family conflict, contact with the law, addictions, and anger management counselling.
- The most important component of successful therapy is the relationship you have with your therapist. Building relationships is a particular strength of mine which supports best practice approaches
- I can provide you with a non-judgmental, compassionate, skilled, therapeutic approach to address difficulties in your life and working towards lasting change
- As a committed listener but also a competent therapist, I help you work through your issues and move towards change while not forcing theories, ideas, or practices, on you.
- Whether you are struggling with mental health challenges, relationship difficulties, family issues, work/school struggles, or trying to find a balance for yourself in your life or anything in between, I am prepared to support your journey forward.
As a particularly empathetic and skillful therapist, I have built a reputation for working with the hardest to serve clients. Over the years, I have worked extensively with people dealing with problems related to attention deficit disorders (ADHD, ADD), Conduct Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Intermittent Explosive Disorder, Mood disorders (Depression; Dysthymia, Bi-polar), Anxiety disorders (OCD, GAD, PTSD), Borderline Personality Disorder, Addictions (gaming, substance use), Anger & Emotions Management, and Parent/child relational problems.
Many people (youth, adults & couples) and their families are struggling with powerful negative emotions, impulses, and behaviour, and they have become trapped in “the blame game”. I believe “the shift in your perception of reality”, is critical and that often leads to the recognition of “the elephant in the room”. I am prepared to fight the good fight, even when it gets messy. I ask the difficult questions, challenge you when you are full of unresolved contradictions and support you throughout the process. I truly believe that empathy and compassion are essential tools for living a good life and that all people, no matter how challenged they feel or how much they struggle, have the capacity for change and the desire to live a life worth living. I also believe that people can live skillfully to get the most out of life, and I have embraced my learning and skills to help people learn and live fulsomely. This means the skills to accept the things they cannot change, the skills to change the things they can, and the skills to determine the difference.
